My mom read this book to me and my siblings when I was little and we didn’t want her to put this down. But getting to Egypt is only the start of the adventure. Great story – even includes an appearance by Moses!

Maybe Grace read an abridged version of it, but in the original, unabridged version it contained some vocabulary that could be hard for children to understand. Amuba and Jethro find themselves given over to the priest Ameres who is not only highly educated and wise but also kind-hearted, taking them into his family as companion and carer for his children Chebron and Mysa, respectively rather than as servants.

I was amazed at how many tidbits of historical information the author was able to squeeze into the story without bogging down the plot. I admit that the first couple of chapters which are mostly battle scenes made me groan with despair. My kids loved it ages 12, 10, and 4 yes the 4 year old followed most of the story.
