Asterix and Obelix take him back to his clan in Scotland so he can find his love and marry her. So why only a lukewarm reaction to it? But the greatest void, I thought, was the story itself. I’d just like to take this opportunity to point out that this currently has a lower rating than Asterix and Son and Asterix and the Actress. Considering a new artist and new author has stepped in to continue the vision of this brilliant ageless series, the album deserves 5 stars.

While I appreciate the oes presented here, which I enjoyed reading, and while I realise Goscinny’s and Uderzo’s shoes are extra-large, I was sad to see the story and illustration lack the original conviction and confidence they did in decades past.

In the case of this new Asterix both the writer and artist are new and yet they keep the quality and expectation eboo. I’m hoping there will be lots more of these. Dec 30, Christopher Francis rated it it picts amazing.

All the regular stuff passes by including the poor pirates that end up swimming as usual.

Classic Asterix and Obelix!

A fun read when read in Scots. That said, some of the lacklustre here may be due to a poor translation into English — not sure. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.

Along the way there are all the old puns, the old wit and plenty of humour of the slapstick variety. My personal highlight was Fafnie Afnor in the French originalan ancestor of the in famous Loch Ness Monster that behaves suspiciously like a playfully affectionate dog. While the story may not be the most original, I think there was a conscious effort in light of the preceding oddball offerings to go back to basics with this book.

All in all a good entertaining Asterix, about one of the most interesting peoples on European soil. And in truth Uderzo and Gosinny did write a classic series that is not easily surpassed. The Pirates make their obligatory appearance and surprisingly still managed to make me laugh: Also, the drawings didn’t quite capture the essence of the original characters. Would rbook new writer be sympathetic to the history of 34 preceding volumes?

Jul 05, Gavin rated it liked it Shelves: A bit like the new ‘Star Wars’ movies. Loch Ness Monster, kilts, caber tossing, and incompressible language gags follow.

Nov 05, Markku Kesti rated it it was ok. And more important the reason of why the monster of Loch Ness is seen so rarely. When Asterix and Obelix rescue a mysterious Pict named MacAroon, they must journey to Caledonia, now Scotland, to asterx him to his lady love, Camomilla, the adopted daughter of the old king.

Currently one my favorite comic series is in the middle of its last publication due to the fact that the artist has chosen to enjoy his pension.
