Isabelle is tough and independent, but she’s not obnoxious, so when she has to work with Thomas and others to bring down a demon who dared to kill hr sister and other witches in the coven, she does so with little hesitation.
Although the world is very dark and intense, the characters and story are extremely well developed and detailed. Thomas wasn’t as well developed, but what we did get to see of him was likeable enough. I’ll probably pick up the next one eventually, but I’m not in any big rush. I liked Thomas, his character could be easily imagined as the by-the-book guy and I liked the chemistry between he and Isabelle, the wanderer.
At the beginning of the book Water Witch Isabella Novak is full of anger and pain.
However, I’m not sure I’m interested enough to read the next two books in the series – which I have here ready to go. They team together for the common goal of ridding the world of the demon and on that journey they discover that while they are different workaholic and impulsive they compliment each other and thus are perfect for each other.
I was skeptical at first because I’ve been conditioned to expect only those witches with elements that attract each other are compatible in the long term. But the stress of the chase is weighing heavily on her soul.

I personally never bought Jack’s grief over his wife’s death. While the plot itself is interesting and bastt, it gets weighed down by the sex scenes. In general, the second half o the novel was much better than the first.
